The plans for demolishing Sherwood Lodge on Bessborough Road are shoddy and ill-considered. Please register your objections using this link. Here are the problems.
Firstly, the proposals mean a net loss of 14 parking spaces in an area where people already struggle to park. Why not solve this by using undercroft parking?
Secondly, developers have missed opportunities by making only one flat wheelchair-accessible. Space has been allowed for lifts, so why not install them from the start?
Thirdly, the artist's impression of the new block is horribly soulless and particularly jarring in contrast to the attractive Wethered House to the left of it. We need a design that is in keeping with the rest of the road.
Fourthly, it seems that the plans have been held up by the developers filling in a form incorrectly: putting Wandsworth Council's address where their own should be. Can we trust such people?
Fifthly, there is a curious omission or evasion on the Application Form. It acknowledges that there are currently 4 social housing units on the site, but does not list how many there will be in the new build. Is this to give the council and developers wiggle room over whether the finished properties will actually be council housing or private housing? Whatever the reason, we suggest that it invalidates the application.
